IT risk management and penetration testing company executive, Vinny Troia, has commented on the recent release of evidence of an NSA back door in the virtual private network encryption through Juniper, a significant provider of network equipment. The entire purpose of VPN was to encrypt cyber traffic, but it appears that most American companies have some type of Juniper gear, and thus are open to NSA viewing for about four years. The key which was recently revealed is similar to other access points which were identified in the past. —
The New York network security firm, Night Lion Security, also provides IT security services and website security for individuals and businesses. Although there have been previous statements about the removal of encryption back doors in the past, research has shown that the weakness still is in place. Juniper says they will be providing an update within the next several months to customers. Originally, the weakness was pointed out by Edward Snowden in the widely publicized NSA scandal and leak.
The work of Night Lion Security extends over multiple areas of cyber activities. A full IT audit can point out areas where businesses may be at risk of hackers, phishing campaigns and another form of threat to data security. By identifying security vulnerabilities, businesses may be less likely to find themselves paying out damages to customers who have had sensitive information accessed by hackers and identity theft specialists.
Identification of potential threats is only the starting point for services which the security specialists provide. The security professionals work with the client's team to develop a plan for remediation which will prioritize any vulnerabilities and risks which are identified in the assessment of the security risks. Emergency or pre-planned assessment efforts help to prevent further loss of data and risk of reputation erosion.
