-- House painting company Sharper Impressions is taking numerous steps to help fight global warming, including using solar powered energy in its office, using low VOC paint and joining CarbonFund.org in the fight against global warming. As a local residential and commercial painting company, Sharper Impressions makes going green a company-wide goal.
The website CarbonFund.org, which Sharper Impressions has been partnered with for years, is an environmental organization dedicated to reducing and offsetting the carbon footprints of individuals and businesses. To do this, Sharper Impressions donates money that goes toward multiple environmental projects, such as investments in renewable energy sources. This helps offset the carbon emissions put out by Sharper Impressions through normal business activities, including transportation of employees and equipment purchases.
Sharper Impressions Founder Geoff Sharp is thrilled that his company found several different ways to go green. “We have been a multi-year member with Carbon Fund,” he says. “We love how they let a small business donate to offset emissions from our office, servers and vehicles by planting trees and investing in renewable energy.”
Almost all businesses and individuals involuntarily contribute to global warming through daily activities, but few do their part to offset those carbon emissions. Sharper Impressions is one of hundreds of other businesses working with CarbonFund.org as part of their goal to give back to the environment by lowering their carbon footprints.
“Carbon Fund has been a great partner to work with, helping us attain these goals,” Sharp says.
In addition to partnering with CarbonFund.org and donating to offset carbon emissions, Sharper Impressions incorporates green initiatives in its office, too. The company’s warehouse-like office in Columbus, Ohio, runs mostly on solar energy, greatly reducing cutting energy consumption and carbon use. The building has 28 panels that provide 9 kW of solar energy, covering 80% of the office’s electricity use.
Sharp is able to incorporate solar energy into his business because of his membership with Ohio Solar United Neighborhoods (OHSun) as part of the Delaware County Solar Co-Op. This co-op has made it possible for the Sharper Impressions founder to learn more about solar energy and integrate the renewable resource in the painting company’s office, helping to further reduce its carbon footprint.
When it comes to its residential and commercial painting services, Sharper Impressions uses low VOC paints to ensure that gases released when the paint dries are not harmful to painters or residents. VOCs (volatile organic compounds) contain carbon, can cause air pollution and have been linked to a number of health hazards. Low VOC paint has less of those harmful chemicals in it, making it a more environmentally friendly paint choice.
Geoff Sharp says, “We are applying environmentally safe paint and we wanted to do our part to offset what our business can do to Mother Earth.”
Along with Sharper Impressions’ use of low VOC paint, it is also an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm. All these combined efforts are proof that Sharper Impressions is a conscientious company that is dedicated to using innovative methods to improve the environment.
