-- The journey of House of Lucie began in 2012 with the Rooftop Gallery in Bangkok. After hosting numerous successful events in the vibrant Thonglor district, the Farmanis relocated the gallery to a larger venue in Ekkamai, marking the birth of the very first House of Lucie. Over the years, this flagship location has inspired the establishment of House of Lucie galleries in various locations worldwide, cementing its reputation as a global hub for the art of photography.
Now, House of Lucie is making a triumphant return to Thailand on the picturesque island of Koh Samui. This new three-story building will feature exhibitions showcasing the works of master photographers from around the globe. In addition to the gallery, the location will host an art center offering workshops, lectures, art and craft classes, digital and classic photo labs, and various creative events. Visitors can also enjoy a charming café, providing a serene space to relax amidst artistic inspiration.
Part of a global network of seven galleries, House of Lucie was established to honor and promote the art of photography. With existing locations in Greece, Hungary, Iran, and Italy, and upcoming expansions in France and Norway by 2025, House of Lucie continues its mission to celebrate photography as a vital artistic medium. Each gallery fosters creativity, education, and community, providing spaces where the arts can thrive.
The House of Lucie & Samui Art Center will host its grand opening on January 25, 2025, featuring a special photography exhibition showcasing the works of two legendary photographers and Lucie Awards honorees: Steve McCurry and James Nachtwey.
The exhibition will include Steve McCurry’s “ISLAND”, a breathtaking series of images highlighting the beauty, culture, and life of islands. Set against the idyllic backdrop of Koh Samui, McCurry’s evocative photographs invite viewers to explore the unique narratives of island life through the lens of one of the world’s most celebrated photographers. Complementing this is James Nachtwey’s powerful documentation of human conflict, providing a compelling contrast that underscores the resilience and spirit of humanity. Simultaneously, the art center will showcase works on paper by Kitikong Tilokwattanotai, further enriching the opening program.
