-- Dr. Sanjeev Sharma, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Highmark Interactive, received the ‘Excellence In Healthcare Award’ at the Health 2.0 Conference Spring Edition. The event took place from March 4–6, 2025, at the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, to celebrate healthcare leaders who are transforming healthcare through innovation and forward-thinking solutions. Dr. Sharma was recognized for his pioneering work in digital health, brain performance technology, and patient-centered care.
A visionary entrepreneur and seasoned ER physician, Dr. Sharma has built a career at the intersection of medicine, innovation, and leadership. As the Founding CEO of Wellpoint Health Services, he scaled the company into one of Canada’s largest occupational health providers, reaching over 250,000 patients annually.
His next venture, Highmark Interactive, launched EQ Brain Performance—the world’s first FDA-cleared gamified medical software for cognitive assessment. Deployed across 30+ countries, the platform marked a breakthrough in digital therapeutics and led to Highmark’s successful IPO in 2021.
Dr. Sharma brings over two decades of frontline experience as ER physician, having served through two global pandemics. Alongside clinical practice, he has mentored hundreds of medical students, blending hands-on education with leadership in tech-driven care.
He holds an MD from McMaster University, pursued postgraduate training at the University of Toronto, and earned his MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University. He continues to support the next generation of innovators through MedPro Investors in New York and funds scholarships for students in need. Reflecting on the recognition, Dr. Sharma shared, “I’m honored to have received the ‘Excellence in Healthcare Award’ by a globally recognized organization such as Health 2.0. I’ve enjoyed my journey within clinical informatics over the last 20 years. Beginning with exploring new verticals for Belgium-based AGFA’s PACS systems to eventually leading the Global Product Management team for applied software at Baxter Health. But, the challenge and joy of fusing gamification with mobile medical-grade software was truly rewarding. Highmark’s award-winning EQ Brain Performance platform was one of the world’s first US FDA-cleared Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) product with gamification as the user interface/experience. With deployment in over 30 countries in 4 languages, it gave other companies the confidence to use games as their UI/UX, thereby helping lead a new wave of successful innovative med tech companies that are using games to improve engagement and patient satisfaction. The EQ platform was disruptive and unique by quantifying balance. By providing an accurate measurement, it enabled both patients and clinicians to track this parameter and prevent falls. I look forward to making “balance measurements” the new blood pressure physiologic parameter, thus reducing the silent epidemic of falls amongst our aging population, which has its own significant mortality and morbidity associated with it.”
