-- The year 2025 marks the “China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges.” The event named “Magnificent Guangxi, Friendship Around the World—Guangxi Friendship Youth Envoys Visiting Brunei” was successfully held in Brunei from August 10 to 17 to deepen the China-Brunei strategic partnership and advance the building of a China-Brunei community with a shared future. The event was guided by the Chinese Embassy in Brunei and the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, hosted by the Guangxi People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and organized by Go Study Education. A delegation of 24 youth representatives from Guangxi conducted a week-long exchange visit in Brunei.

During the seven-day study tour, the delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, where they were warmly received by Ambassador Xiao Jianguo and engaged in lively discussions with diplomats. The delegation also visited SEAMEO Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO VOCTECH) to gain firsthand insight into regional educational cooperation and development. As part of their corporate research, they visited the Muara Port Company and Royal Brunei Airlines, experiencing the tangible outcomes of Belt and Road Initiative cooperation.

Cultural exchanges were equally enriching. The delegation tried their hand at preparing traditional Bruneian cuisine in a cooking class, discovering shared connections and friendship through cross-cultural interaction. The delegation also engaged in face-to-face discussions with Bruneian students, exploring cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things while sharing personal growth experiences and campus stories. The sincere interaction pushed the youths from both countries to deepen mutual understanding and forge lasting bonds, and the Bruneian students expressed their hopes to visit Guangxi for future study and exchange.

At the closing ceremony, three student representatives shared their reflections on the Brunei trip, talking about their experiences immersing in local culture, the inspiration gained from interacting with Bruneian students, and the personal growth achieved during the journey.

This program coincided with the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges. The event highlighted the fruitful cooperation between China and Brunei under the Belt and Road Initiative and demonstrated Guangxi’s proactive role as a frontline hub for opening up and collaboration with ASEAN.
