On November 25, the second Liangzhu Forum opened in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Liangzhu, a testimony to the existence of Chinese civilization at least 5,000 years ago, once again opened its arms to the world. This is not only a stage for implementing the global civilization initiative, but also a bridge for promoting exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations. On this occasion, the Overseas Center (ZTV-World) of Zhejiang Media Group held the Global Youth Sharing Meeting on Liangzhu Culture in the Metaverse and engaged young people from all over the world on the origin and development of Chinese civilization, celebrating the diversity of cultures without uniformity.
Those in attendance included experts and scholars on Liangzhu from China and abroad, and youth representatives from China, Greece, Portugal, Britain, Russia, Malaysia, Japan and other countries who joined from branch venues set up in Greece, Portugal, Britain, Russia among other places. In the Metaverse space, they shared stories of civilizations in their home countries, and Chinese culture was promoted in this process of exchanges and mutual-leaning .
Through sessions such as "Liangzhu-Greek Civilization Dialogue", "Civilization Exchange from a Global Perspective ", and "In-depth Exploration and Dissemination of Liangzhu Culture", the Sharing Meeting provided young people with a platform to explore the magical metaverse space and to gain a deeper understanding of the splendid Liangzhu civilization.
Last year, the successful holding of the first Liangzhu Forum re-sparkled the enthusiasm for ancient civilization studies around the world. Follow-up events such as "A Dialogue across World Civilizations" serve as a bridge for deepening the understanding and respect between different civilizations. For this event in Metaverse, we specially invited Anna and Konstantinos from Athens, Greece who previously participated in the Dialogue Event to explore the connection that transcends time and space between the Liangzhu civilization and the ancient Greek civilization .
Anna and Konstantinos are twins currently studying at Zhejiang University, with a keen interest in ancient history. After getting to know Liangzhu in depth through this event, they feel that Liangzhu civilization is really amazing. The Chinese 5,000 years ago had such great craftsmanship working with jade, and the Liangzhu people, like the ancient Greeks, knew how to appreciate beauty.
To promote Liangzhu culture, we launched a global recruitment campaign for "Liangzhu Promoters", and have since attracted youth applicants from countries including China, Greece, Portugal, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Belarus, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, and others countries. Among them, we have selected those who are more interested in and knowledgeable about Liangzhu civilization. Some of these selected "Liangzhu Promoters" participated in the filming of documentary "Liangzhu·A Dialogue across World Civilizations" and related short videos.
In this Metaverse event, some of these Promoters were also present. Equipped with their own understanding of Liangzhu, they raised questions to which experts and scholars answered meticulously in the session .
Those in attendance through video messages were guests including Zhao Bentang, Chinese Ambassador to Portugal, Xiao Junzheng, then Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Lai Bo, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Greece, Tassos Lampropoulos, Director of the Confucius Institute at Aristotle University Roland and a renowned Greek writer, Catarina Gaspar, Assistant Professor of Classical Studies at the University of Lisbon, Giorgos Vavouranakis, Professor at the University of Athens, and young people from Greece, Portugal, the United States, Malaysia, Belarus and other countries.
Young people are the main force in deepening exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations and promoting Chinese civilization to go global in an engaging way . We hope that in the future the guests in the virtual realm will be able to step into the real world to experience Liangzhu’s splendor and feel its unique charm.
In recent years, the Overseas Center (ZTV-World) of Zhejiang Media Group devised new forms of international communication based on the best of our traditions to promote the Liangzhu culture. On the evening of July 6, 2019, when Liangzhu was successfully inscribed into the World Heritage Site List, the three-episode documentary "Liangzhu" produced by Zhejiang Media Group and created by ZTV-World premiered, covering audiences around the world and receiving wide acclaim. Later, after being translated and dubbed in more than 10 languages, it was aired on mainstream media outlets in more than 20 countries and won the "China Radio and Television Awards 2019-2020 Radio and Television Program Award" in the TV Foreign News Category. Also, the "Miniforum of Liangzhu Culture" program was launched to engage a global audience to interact with experts and scholars on Liangzhu culture and 5,000 years of Chinese history; Short videos and promotional films including " The Light of Civilization at Liangzhu
" and " Liangzhu: The Eternal Flame " were broadcast on-site at the Liangzhu Forum, winning wide acclaim from young sinologists and Chinese and foreign artists. Through the launch of “Belt & Road Countries and Liangzhu: A Dialogue across World Civilizations”, Global Youth Sharing Meeting on Liangzhu Culture, "The Essence of Liangzhu”,Liangzhu Civilization-themed Exhibition, the "Liangzhu·Dialogue of World Civilizations" Exchange Salon, the "Liangzhu One Day·Dialogue of World Civilizations" , the recruitment of "Liangzhu Promoters", the production of a number of Liangzhu-themed films, documentaries, and short videos, we showed the interconnectedness and diversity of human civilizations, promoting exchanges and mutual learning for young people around the world and jointly building a community with a shared future for mankind. These efforts are aimed at not only promoting Liangzhu culture on a global stage, but also turning it into a cultural IP with Zhejiang’s heritage, China’s appeal, and international influence.
