-- With a firm commitment to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the underprivileged, Gas Malaysia Berhad (Gas Malaysia) has jointly launched a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme with Pertubuhan Tindakan Wanita Islam (PERTIWI) to feed the homeless and urban poor at Kuala Lumpur Homeless Transit Centre to coincide with 60th Malaysia Day celebration.
This was the first collaboration project with PERTIWI and it represents a significant step in addressing the urban poverty rate within the city while extending assistance to the homeless community in need. The CSR initiative was graced with the presence of Gas Malaysia’s Group Chief Executive Officer, En. Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap, Datin Haryani Abdul Hamid, Exco Member representing PERTIWI and supported by volunteers from Gas Malaysia.
In the spirit of caring for the underprivileged, Group Chief Executive Officer of Gas Malaysia Berhad, En. Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap said, “We aspire to bring hope to the underserved communities via our CSR programmes, much in line with our CSR theme of ‘Energising the Community’. It is our duty as a responsible corporate citizen to extend a helping hand to those in need. Feeding the homeless and urban poor is an affirmation of our commitment to the wellbeing of the communities we serve.”
The commitment Gas Malaysia upholds in its CSR framework is best understood through its four key pillars - Community, Sports, Education and Environment - which are targeted to ensure that Gas Malaysia’s business goals are well balanced with responsible corporate practices.
“Aiding disadvantaged members of society in one form or another is the mainstay of our CSR initiatives. While the challenge of assisting every homeless and urban poor individual may seem like an uphill task, we remain convinced that by aligning with noble efforts undertaken by NGOs such as PERTIWI, we can genuinely impact the lives of the homeless and work collectively towards fostering a more caring and inclusive society,” En. Ahmad Hashimi concluded.
