Flood Services Canada (www.FloodServices.ca), the Greater Toronto Area’s leading 24-hour emergency flood, fire, and smoke damage restoration response service team, is proud to announce that its employees have completed the Health and Safety Technician (HST) course offered by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). —
The incorporation of IICRC’s HST certification will see services and safety improve for both customers and employees alike. Some of the topics covered by the certification include OSHA standards, record keeping, protective equipment, hazard management, and how to manage safety in confined spaces.
"Currently, seven employees have become certified," says Chad Vanvari, Owner of Flood Services Canada. "The course is also being made mandatory for all new employees as part of their training. This will ensure further safety in the workplace and proper understanding of health and safety protocols."
Flood Services Canada was already in compliance with health and safety regulations, but HST certification will enable the company to stay up-to-date on the latest changes in IICRC standards and regulations.
As part of this new step, the Occupational Health and Safety Manual is in the process of being updated to encompass all current guidelines. Andy Hibbs, the Health and Safety Supervisor at Flood Services Canada, is also currently forming a committee that will focus on drafting further policies to promote safety.
"Our staff regularly handle heavy equipment and are exposed to potential mould and mildew to do their jobs both effectively and efficiently,” Vanvari concludes. “We want to ensure the safety of our staff and our clients during flood restoration, fire damage and sewage backups. There is never such a thing as 'too safe' in our industry, so we will continue to take all the steps to maximize security for our clients and their homes and property.”
