-- FFANT INC, a New York-based creative studio founded by Chinese illustrator Fan, today announced the development of Breathscape, a culturally inspired fragrance series recently submitted to an international design competition. Designed as a multi-sensory system, Breathscape weaves together scent, emotion, and temporal rhythms to offer an Eastern-inspired approach to mental wellness.
Responding to increasing emotional fatigue and anxiety in modern life, Breathscape reimagines tea not simply as a beverage, but as a breathable essence—a daily ritual for emotional self-regulation. Drawing inspiration from China’s six classical tea types—Yellow, Green, White, Black, Red, and Oolong—and the ancient philosophy linking tea and specific times of day ("Shíchen"), each burnable incense card releases a distinctive aroma tied to particular body organs, emotional states, and time periods.
Users can select an incense card based on emotional needs or time of day, gently unfold and ignite it, and enter a moment of calm guided by scent. Breathscape translates intangible cultural wisdom into tangible everyday experiences, inviting users to restore inner balance and reconnect with themselves in the quiet flow of time.
Fan, serving as Visual Designer, led the entire visual development, including concept illustration, product structure. "Culture should not be frozen behind glass," Fan stated. "With Breathscape, I sought to translate traditional Chinese healing philosophy into a tangible form that addresses contemporary emotional needs."
The project builds upon Fan’s recent cultural initiative, the Book Light series, created in collaboration with Shanghai’s Zikawei Book Library. She has also collaborated extensively with global brands, including KFC, Taco Bell, Alibaba, Lenovo, JD.com, and OPPO, with her works receiving multiple accolades such as shortlist placement in the 2025 Communication Arts Illustration Competition, the 2024 China Illustration Art Yearbook Excellence Award, and the 2020 OPPO Global Design Award (Dynamic Wallpaper Category).
Additionally, Fan and her studio offer large-scale visual solutions such as mural design and installation, bringing cultural storytelling to commercial spaces through visually impactful experiences.
Breathscape is scheduled for global launch in late 2025 through selected retail and online channels.
