-- McWherter Scott & Bobbitt, PLC announced that F. Inge Johnstone has joined the firm as Of Counsel in its Birmingham, Alabama office. Johnstone will represent insurance policyholders and individuals in serious personal injury cases, bringing decades of experience in personal lines and commercial lines insurance litigation and personal injury litigation.
Johnstone began his legal career in 1998 at a corporate defense firm, where he represented insurance companies and large corporations in complex commercial litigation. He also oversaw litigation for a large health care company and represented it in more than 70 cases nationwide.
That early experience gave Johnstone firsthand insight into how insurers and corporations evaluate risk, approach litigation and defend claims. He later moved to the plaintiffs’ side, handling complex litigation at a class-action firm.
“Inge brings exceptional experience, judgment and knowledge to our Alabama team,” said Brandon McWherter, founding attorney at McWherter Scott & Bobbitt. “He understands insurance litigation from both sides of the courtroom, but his commitment is firmly rooted in helping policyholders and individuals stand up to powerful companies. Johnstone has represented policyholders in claims involving commercial property insurance, commercial general liability insurance, homeowners insurance, renters insurance, life insurance, individual disability income insurance, short-term health insurance, directors and officers coverage, professional liability policies and other specialty insurance policies. His experience also includes personal injury claims, consumer matters, business litigation and other complex disputes.
Johnstone’s dedication to policyholder representation is shaped in part by his own family history. In the 1950s, his grandfather’s uninsured ship-supply business burned to the ground, forcing him to rebuild his livelihood. The experience influenced Johnstone’s understanding of how a devastating loss can affect a family or business and why dependable insurance coverage is so important.
Johnstone earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from The University of Alabama in 1995 and graduated cum laude from The University of Alabama School of Law in 1998. He is admitted to practice in Alabama, Georgia, Texas and Washington, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and multiple federal district courts.
He is a member of the Birmingham Bar Association, Alabama State Bar, American Association for Justice, Alabama Association for Justice and Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
