-- San Diego’s Garage Door Experts, Dlouhy Doors, wants to remind homeowners and property management companies in California about a new law passed pertaining to garage doors, Senate Bill 969. The new law, which is set to take effect on July 1st, 2019, requires all new garage door openers to be backup battery compliant in case of a power outage. The main catalyst for this law were the major forest fires which California experienced in 2017. Those fires and the subsequent power outages showed the weaknesses of the current safety regulations which govern garage doors. Even though the law requires only new garage door openers to be equipped with this battery backup, it may be useful for all residents of California to consider upgrading their garage door.
“We support this move by the state legislature. Safety legislation is hugely important and improving it constantly is important, especially in the wake of events like these.” said Jason Sengebusch. “Starting on July 1st, all new garage door openers installed will need to have this new system in place, and includes not only new homes being built, but also if you are replacing your opener. We are ready for this change, and we want our customers to be as well. Safety simply must come first.”
