When asked to comment, La Rue said, “Increased drug distribution in the Cuyahoga area has led to a rise in overdose deaths in recent years and severe punishment for drug possession and distribution. It’s important now more than ever to have the best possible legal representation.”

Over the past couple of years, the distribution of two opioids - fentanyl and heroin - have been responsible for the majority of fatal drug overdoses in Cuyahoga County.

“In 2016, there were 666 drug overdose deaths in the area, with fentanyl a factor in nearly two-thirds of the total, or 399 deaths. Of this, fentanyl was the sole cause in 117 cases, while the rest were caused by a mix of fentanyl and heroin,” La Rue commented.

La Rue added that this was not always the case. In 2013, fentanyl was only involved in five overdose deaths in Cuyahoga.

“This is not a trend that is likely to fade anytime soon with newer and more powerful drugs – such as carfentanil and acetyl fentanyl – on the Cuyahoga drug market. There were at least 770 overdoses in the county in 2017, and this number is only going to rise.”

An upturn in activity on the drug marketplace signals a surge in the distribution and possession of drugs.

When asked to comment, La Rue said, “The more overdoses there are in Cuyahoga, the stricter law enforcement will be in laying down the law when it comes to possession and distribution of illegal substances.”

“To avoid bearing the brunt of this recent crackdown, the best thing to do is to hire an experienced drug attorney to represent you if charged with either drug possession or drug distribution,” he added.

La Rue added that it’s essential to select a lawyer who is not afraid of law enforcement and prosecutors.

When asked to elaborate, he said, “The best representation won’t back down from a fight – no matter how big or small – and will be able to anticipate and respond to possible strategies used by the other side when building a case.”
