-- Cone N’ Swirl announces the expansion of its San Antonio dessert business with its first permanent storefront at Braun Pointe on West Loop 1604 North. Founded by Gilbert and Kristina Torres, the veteran-, minority-, and woman-owned company will continue operating its mobile dessert trailer while construction on the new location moves forward.
Construction is underway, with the interior stripped to create the new shop. Cone N’ Swirl is continuing to operate its trailer and hold scheduled pop-ups at Braun Pointe while work progresses. The company will announce the storefront’s opening date and operating hours through its website and social media channels as plans are finalized.
“Reaching the storefront stage gives us an opportunity to build on what we have learned from serving customers throughout the San Antonio area,” Gilbert Torres says. “The trailer allowed us to introduce the concept one neighborhood and one event at a time. This location will give customers a consistent place to visit while we preserve the creativity and personal choice that shaped Cone N’ Swirl from the beginning.”
The business originated after the Torreses watched a television program featuring Hungarian chimney cones. Curious about the pastry, they searched San Antonio and Central Texas but did not find a nearby business serving it. The couple traveled to Houston to try one and later spent approximately two months developing recipes with feedback from friends and neighbors.

Cone N’ Swirl pairs fresh-baked Hungarian chimney cones with blended ice cream. Rather than using conventional soft serve, the business starts with scooped ice cream and blends it with selected ingredients. Options include fruit, coffee, almonds, pecans, cookies, and brownies. Customers can further personalize an order with fillings, cone coatings, sticker ‘ems, and drizzles or choose a cup without the pastry.
The storefront will carry that customizable format into a fixed setting. Cone N’ Swirl has not announced major changes to its menu, and the company says its central build-your-own approach will remain part of the in-store experience. Details about the shop’s final layout, opening activities, and service schedule will be released closer to completion.
“Trying a new kind of dessert can feel more approachable when customers can begin with flavors they already know,” Kristina Torres says. “Our goal has been to give each person enough choices to make the experience their own. As we prepare the storefront, we are thinking about how to make that ordering process clear, welcoming, and consistent.”
The expansion follows sustained development in mobile food service nationally. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that employment in the sector reached 44,119 in 2024, approximately 10 times its 2000 level. The agency notes that its figures exclude self-employed workers, but the growth illustrates the larger role mobile food businesses now play in the food-service landscape.

For Cone N’ Swirl, mobility has provided access to neighborhoods, private venues, parks, corporate gatherings, and community events throughout San Antonio and surrounding counties. The self-contained trailer does not require outside electricity, water, or kitchen access at event sites. Its changing weekly schedule has also allowed the business to meet customers across the region while developing recognition for the chimney-cone concept.
Local television station KSAT featured Cone N’ Swirl and its Hungarian chimney cones in July 2025. The business has continued to share weekly stops, specials, weather updates, and storefront progress online. Until the permanent location opens, customers can find current trailer appearances through the company’s website and social channels.
The Braun Pointe expansion represents a shift in how customers will be able to access the business, rather than an end to its mobile beginnings. The company expects the storefront to complement, rather than immediately replace, its mobile service. Cone N’ Swirl plans to provide further information as construction advances.
