-- Chatalystar.ai is calling attention to a broader industry shift toward transparency in AI companion technology, as the sector experiences unprecedented growth. There are now 337 active, revenue-generating AI companion apps worldwide, with 128 of them launched in 2025 alone, and the number of AI companion apps has surged by 700% between 2022 and mid-2025, according to industry tracking.
That scale is forcing a reckoning over disclosure. As AI-driven companionship has gone mainstream, questions have intensified around how clearly users understand what they're actually interacting with. Roughly 40% of AI companion users identify as having mental health challenges, turning to these apps for constant, judgment-free support, while another 35% use them primarily for entertainment and roleplay.
Regulatory attention is following the growth: five U.S. states are currently moving to pass new laws specifically regulating the AI companion space, signaling that disclosure and labeling practices are becoming a compliance issue platforms can no longer treat as optional.
"As AI continues to evolve, the way platforms present it to users will become increasingly important," said a Chatalystar.ai spokesperson. "Clear labeling and member awareness should be standard, not optional."
Chatalystar.ai points to its own platform launch as one example of this shift in practice. The company's transparency-first approach was detailed in a recent feature, which outlined its model of explicitly labeled AI personas and member-first design.
