Award-winning initiative synergises private, public as well as people sectors to partner and build resilience in children

CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF), the philanthropic arm of CapitaLand Group, alongside its charity partners, Life Community Services Society, New Life Stories and NeuGen Fund, have been jointly awarded the prestigious ‘City of Good’ at the President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards (PVPA) 2024 today. The award is a strong recognition of CHF and its partners’ collaborative efforts in building resilient, thriving and future-ready children through Camp Cacti. The initiative showcases exceptional contributions and positive impact of cross-sector partnerships resulting in lasting contributions to society. Mr Tan Seng Chai, Executive Director of CHF and Senior Advisor of CapitaLand Investment, received the award from President Tharman Shanmugaratnam who was the Guest-of-Honour at the PVPA award ceremony.

Camp Cacti is a multi-sectoral collaboration with Yellow Ribbon Singapore under CHF’s CapitaLand Empowerment and Resilience Programme that supports the socio-emotional development of children through resilience and character building. Through the collaboration, it brings together CHF and Community Action for the Rehabilitation of Ex-offenders (CARE) Network partners such as Yellow Ribbon Fund, NeuGen Fund, Life Community Services Society and New Life Stories to help children acquire skills to better manage their emotions, build positive relationships and cope with adversities in their lives through a series of holiday camps.

Mr Tan Seng Chai said: “CapitaLand Hope Foundation is honoured to receive the ‘City of Good’ award in recognition of our efforts in amplifying the positive impact on the community with a private, public and people sectors partnership to support the socio-emotional development of children through Camp Cacti. We are heartened to work with like-minded partners to augment our giving efforts, with each contributing their own unique expertise and resources in empowering children to thrive in the face of adversity. I am encouraged by the spirit of unity in achieving our shared purpose of creating meaningful change in the society.”

Since the launch of Camp Cacti in 2022, over 200 children have benefitted from the initiative. In 2024, 76% of the participants exhibited an increase in socio-emotional competence in the post-programme self-evaluation survey. Going beyond donations, CHF also advocates volunteerism as an integral part of building a caring and inclusive community. More than 320 staff and community volunteers were rallied to guide and share their life experience with the children as facilitators and conduct the camp respectively, accumulating over 3,100 volunteer hours.

Building resilience through improving health and well-being for children and youth

CHF believes in building resilient, thriving and future-ready children and youths in communities where CapitaLand operates. To date, CHF has funded more than S$50 million towards projects targeting children and youth. One such project is the CapitaLand Empowerment and Resilience Programme which aims to build resilience and character of children and at-risk youths through specially curated activities and vocational training.
