-- CalmCar, a practitioner of “lean intelligent driving” with ten years of experience in the field, has officially begun large-scale production deliveries of its advanced intelligent driving solution built on the Horizon Journey 6 family of chips.

A major addition to Horizon’s open Journey 6 ecosystem, the solution was developed through close collaboration between CalmCar and Horizon. It is deeply integrated into a platform program with planned production approaching one million vehicles for a leading Chinese automotive group, overcoming delivery bottlenecks in the L2+ segment. The first production model equipped with CalmCar’s Journey 6 solution has opened for pre-orders and is expected to launch in September. Meanwhile, models across several of the group’s mainstream and premium brands both domestic and joint ventures, with different configuration levels, have been finalized and are entering production. More new models are expected to follow, bringing the program closer to production at million-unit scale.
This milestone demonstrates the strength of the Horizon Journey 6 chip as a computing platform. It also shows how deeply integrating CalmCar’s intelligent driving software can amplify product performance and integration efficiency. By engineering its capabilities for production, the two companies have bridged the final gap in software–hardware collaboration and deployment.
Deep chip–algorithm collaboration: 18 TOPS delivers a L2+ intelligent driving experience
The intelligent driving industry is now facing comprehensive challenges impacted by computing platforms, algorithm architectures, regulatory compliance and production engineering. In the mainstream market, where vehicles are priced between RMB 100,000 and RMB 200,000, conventional integrated driving-and-parking solutions either rely heavily on high-compute chips and high-definition maps, driving up hardware costs or compromise the user experience because of limited computing power.
The Horizon Journey 6B was designed for accessible intelligent driving. It features Horizon’s self-developed Nash architecture for its BPU processor, efficiently supporting mainstream algorithms such as Transformer and providing mass-market vehicles with a cost-effective, reliable computing platform.
Building on this platform, CalmCar follows its lean intelligent driving philosophy and its brand promise, “Create value through lean engineering”. It avoids unncessary hardware additions and feature development.
- BEV + Sparse4D architecture: CalmCar has developed an architecture that combines its own Transformer-based surround-view perception with Horizon Sparse4D forward-facing perception. By sparsely fusing sensor data and modeling continuous sequences over time, the system can do more than “see” the road: it can accurately “understand” dynamic traffic flows.
- Addressing long-tail challenges: CalmCar’s proprietary BEV-based surround-view perception algorithm converts images from around the vehicle into a real-time, bird’s-eye 3D representation. This makes standard parking-space recognition more consistent and reliable, while also addressing traditional long-tail challenges such as low curbs, posts, and overhead obstacles. Memory parking can also handle complex scenarios such as dead-end roads and mechanical parking spaces.
- Reducing power use and cost with precision: CalmCar uses computing resources efficiently to reduce power consumption. On the Journey 6 platform, it has implemented advanced driver-assistance features that integrate driving and parking. For example, the per-vehicle domain controller cost of its Robotaxi ConnectOne L4 solution is more than 30% lower than the industry average, balancing performance and cost.
L4-level safety engineering: 1oo2D architecture establishes a production safety baseline for Journey 6
Improvements to the intelligent driving experience must rest on an uncompromising foundation of automotive-grade safety. CalmCar provides technology for both L2–L2+ passenger vehicles and advanced L4 intelligent driving. It is applying its extensive L4 safety engineering experience to its Journey 6 production solution.
Safety is an inviolable baseline for intelligent driving systems, and a principle CalmCar consistently upholds. To guard against threats to driving safety from single-point and common-cause failures, CalmCar has incorporated L4-level safety redundancy into the underlying architecture of its Journey 6 production solution.
CalmCar’s Journey 6 solution follows a rigorous fail-safe strategy and uses a 1oo2D (One-out-of-Two with Diagnostics) dual-redundancy system architecture:
- Dual domain controllers and heterogeneous cross-checking: The architecture supports collaboration between a primary and a redundant domain controller, with redundant power and communications systems. It can also support two heterogeneous sensor suites and autonomous driving software systems for cross-checking, preventing a single hardware fault or a shared software defect from causing a loss of control.
- Fail-safe degradation: If periodic system self-checks detect a serious fault, the healthy system can take over seamlessly and initiate a degraded operating mode. It guides the vehicle into a “minimal risk condition”, such as stopping safely in its lane or pulling over, protecting occupants in extreme conditions.
By bringing advanced L4 safety engineering into automotive-grade mass production, CalmCar has implemented “proactive risk management,” eliminating most safety risks during virtual validation and engineering development.
Engineering capabilities and global compliance: Building a thriving intelligent driving ecosystem together
Beyond technical performance and safety, fast, dependable engineering delivery is one of CalmCar’s core strengths. To address “one project, one codebase” and delivery delays caused by adapting solutions across multiple chips and vehicle models, CalmCar has used its “capability engineering” approach to build a decoupled platform architecture—combining a “data flywheel in the middle platform” with rapid adaptation at the front end—alongside an automated AI toolchain. This turns customized intelligent driving projects into a standardized, highly reusable production line.
CalmCar achieved a cross-platform reuse rate of more than 70% for its core algorithms and toolchain, significantly shortening porting and debugging cycles. The company also follows ASPICE and V-model development processes and has established rigorous Change Control Board (CCB). Combined with its proprietary AI toolchain, this enables end-to-end quality traceability and keeps software releases closely aligned with vehicle SOP milestones. Its efficient and reliable engineering delivery gives automakers greater certainty in meeting launch windows.
Global regulatory readiness is another major entry barrier. The Journey 6 chip is designed to the requirements of major global safety regulations. Through close adaptation of its algorithms and systems engineering, CalmCar is working to ensure that its integrated driving-and-parking solution covers major regulatory and assessment frameworks globally, including ISO, C-NCAP, E-NCAP, EU GSR II, and i-VISTA.
This combination of “compliant computing at the foundation” and “software systems ready for market approval” has produced a lean intelligent driving solution that CalmCar describes as “regulation-ready, delivery-capable, and deployable worldwide,” giving the company a strong foundation to help automakers expand into global markets.
At the same time, CalmCar draws on the global Tier 1 sales channels and compliance systems of its strategic shareholder, ZF, to help Chinese automakers expand overseas through an asset-light model. As of mid-May 2026, CalmCar had worked closely with ZF’s ADAS business group and secured 40 OEM program nominations, establishing a model pathway from domestic production to global delivery.
Looking ahead: Making intelligent driving widely available through lean engineering
The intelligent driving sector has entered a new phase of competition centered on automotive-grade quality, production delivery, and commercial value. After ten years of development, CalmCar has moved from lab demonstrations to large-scale production.
Looking ahead, CalmCar will continue working with Horizon, ZF, and other partners across the industry and focusing on technologies with safety, user experience and efficiency. CalmCar brings affordable intelligent driving at scale and safety with our lean engineering.
