UV block that excluded chemical organic matter and enhanced the safety of antioxidant functional ingredient

BST, a company specialized in natural cosmetics/food ingredients, revealed natural UV-blocking ingredient ‘BHC-S’ and fat-soluble antioxidant ‘BST-AR’, which corresponds to food safety level that can be consumed and digested within the body. The two ingredients discovered by BST are core ingredient substances each consisting of natural preservatives that excluded chemical organic substances and that will alternate cosmetic stabilizers that caused problems as they were considered dangerous to be applied on skin due to the inherent toxicity.

First, ‘BHC-S’ is a ‘mild’ natural UV-blocking ingredient, which is the result of the government task. It used centella asiatica, licorice root, ecklonia kurome okamura extract, etc. that are esculent plants with uv-blocking functions and also known as ingredients that are not only friendly and safe to be used on the skin but also to the environment. About the ingredients, BST explained, “The ingredients correspond to the keynote of our company’s ‘edible natural preservatives’, and are natural ingredients with safe food grade that solved the existing problems of skin stimulation and ecological environment toxicity. “

‘BST-AR’ is an ingredient substance that can alternate synthetic antioxidants like BHT, which used to be included in functional cosmetics with ‘antioxidant’ functions. The ingredient was developed by BST and the company ACCESS in the United States as an ingredient that can alternate synthetic ingredients.

BHT ingredient, which is a cosmetics stabilizer that was generally used, contains a toxicity that can mutate genes, cause ecological disturbance, and therefore was pointed out that it should be alternated. BST-AR is a naturally originated fat-soluble antioxidant compound replacing phenolic chemical compounds like BHT and BHA. BST-AR used natural materials and was extracted with low-temperature extraction methods to minimize the damage of active ingredients. Furthermore, it maximized strong antioxidants and other biologically active effects by using plants’ secondary products. Through this, the ingredient has strong points of minimizing sensual influence and being quickly absorbed and delivered to the skin, which the company explains that it can solve the problem caused by synthetic antioxidant and alternate it.

Other than this, BST-AR also prevents the oxidation of lipids and maintains the freshness. This effect can be verified through the antioxidant activation test such as ▲DPPH assay, ▲ABTS assay, etc., the amount of POV generated, and acceleration experiment through Rancimat. As it is an edible food material that originated from nature rather than synthetic chemical material, it is known as an environment-friendly material that fulfills the safety and relief of consumers.

On the two ingredients, Ho Lee, the representative of BST explained, “We focused on the fact that cosmetics ingredients cannot be exempt from the problem of climate crisis,” and continued, “Chemical organic sunblocks can cause disturbance in marine ecosystem and some parts like Hawaii, U.S., prohibit the use of sunblocks with those ingredients in the ocean.” as the background of discovering and developing the ingredients.

He also added, “Synthetic antioxidants are widely used as cosmetics ingredients but we focused on the problems it possesses, such as the fact that it can induce cancer, skin safety, and safety in ingredient mix.” He then continued, “We look forward to the two newly discovered ingredients becoming the soil for protecting the earth and environment along with the safety of beauty products in the future.”
