Boyd Lowry announces plans to expand FirstLight Home Care of Bergen County’s presence across the county and support families navigating home care needs.

-- Boyd Lowry, owner of FirstLight Home Care of Bergen County, has announced plans to expand the organization’s reach across the county, with a focus on providing in-home support and information for older adults, families, and individuals who may need assistance as they age. The expansion reflects Lowry’s interest in making home care resources more accessible to families navigating changing care needs and decisions concerning loved ones living at home.

The planned expansion will include a broader focus on serving families as they consider care arrangements for parents, relatives, and other loved ones in later stages of life. Lowry notes that families may contact FirstLight as a source of information and guidance when they are considering home care and seeking to understand the types of support that may be appropriate for their circumstances.

“For many families, the need for care develops over time, and the decisions can involve several members of a family,” Lowry states. “Having a trusted person to speak with can help families organize their questions, understand their options, and consider how care may fit into the life of the person they love.”

Lowry also plans to incorporate information related to brain health and brain health awareness into the organization’s conversations with families. The subject is particularly relevant for families supporting older adults whose needs may change as they age. By providing information and encouraging families to remain attentive to cognitive and overall well-being, the organization intends to support conversations about maintaining quality of life at home.

Another area of focus will be the veteran community. As a veteran-owned business, FirstLight plans to help veterans and their families better understand available community care resources and navigate the Veteran Community Care Network when those services may be relevant to their circumstances.

“Through my background in service, I developed an appreciation for the importance of being available when people need support,” Lowry shares. “I want that experience to inform the way we work with veterans and their families as they consider care for a parent, spouse, or another loved one.”

Lowry’s perspective on caregiving also draws from his family background. His father was a minister, while his mother was a nurse, providing early examples of service and care in his life. His experiences with his parents and in-laws later contributed to his decision to work in home care and support older adults who wish to remain in their homes.

Through the planned expansion, FirstLight will continue developing its presence within Bergen County while providing families with a point of contact for home care questions, veteran-related resources, and information concerning aging and brain health. The effort is intended to give families additional support as they evaluate care needs and plan for the later stages of life. For Lowry, the expansion represents a continuation of his involvement in the Bergen County community and his interest in helping older adults receive appropriate support while remaining connected to their homes and families.
