Baltimore City Orphans’ Court Associate Judge Lewyn Scott Garrett Appeared on WJZ-TV’s “On Time” along with Chief Judge Joyce M. Baylor-Thompson.

“On Time” host Gigi Barnett interviewed Baltimore City Orphans' Court Associate Judge Lewyn Scott Garrett along with Chief Judge Joyce Baylor-Thompson about the need to have a last will and testament. During the interview the Judges squash some of the misnomers about what the Orphans Court does.

They also shared a shocking statistic that as many as 50% of the City's residents die without a will, which is why they want to educate the public on the importance of having a will and planning an estate.

In the 2 part interview, Judge Garrett also shared an example of one of the worse cases that came before him and how the court dealt with it.

The Honorable Lewyn Scott Garrett has been a judge in the Baltimore City Orphans' Court since November, 1995. At the age of 22, in 1978, Judge Garrett was one of the youngest candidates to ever be sworn in as a full fledged attorney. He earned his B.A. degree and Masters degree in Policy Sciences from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland Law School. Judge Garrett has maintained an active law practice for more than 28 years. His knowledge and skills regarding the law is a great asset to the Orphans' Court. Judge Garrett taught at the University of Maryland Baltimore County from 1983-1984. He is a Certified Mediator, held the Chairmanship of Maryland Public Interest Research Group in Law School, helped draft the “Just Cause Bill” and the “Baltimore City Circuit Court Consolidation Bill”, litigated cases pro bono for the NAACP, and he is active in many civic and community activities.
