Mrs. Wallapa Traisorat, Chief Executive Officer and President of Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC), stated, “We are very excited to collaborate with Marriott International to bring The Ritz-Carlton, a world-renowned ultra-luxury brand to this culturally rich destination. “At Marriott International, we believe luxury hospitality lies in honoring heritage while embracing innovation. Our partnership with AWC on The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok, The Riverside is a shining example of this philosophy,” said Mr. Brad Edman, Market Vice President, Marriott International – Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar. “The property is perfectly situated at the historic The Lhong 1919 Riverside Heritage Destination, which is set to become Thailand’s premier destination for wellness and culture. This project stands as a beacon of sustainable tourism—where cultural conservation, community engagement, and international standards of excellence come together to create a unique experience for discerning travelers from around the world.”

The Lhong 1919 Riverside Heritage Destination was formerly a steamship port and trade hub that played a vital role in Bangkok’s maritime trade history. The site stands as one of the last remaining examples of Chinese craftsmanship in Southeast Asia and has been designated a national heritage site. Today, it remains a spiritual sanctuary—home to the revered Mazu Shrine, where generations of devotees continue to gather in faith and reverence.

Driven by a deep respect for cultural heritage, AWC is committed to preserving the historical integrity of “Huǒ Chuán Láng,” (The Lhong 1919 Riverside Heritage Destination) a historic steamship port that represented the glory of Siam’s maritime commerce during the 19-20th centuries. The restoration is led by Associate Professor Dr. Peeraya Boonprasong, a leading expert in architectural conservation from Silpakorn University, in close collaboration with the Fine Arts Department, and A49 Limited, and specialist design firms Adaptive Design & Doc Co., Ltd. The project follows international best practices in heritage preservation, with a focus on authenticity, structural integrity, and cultural value. Low-vibration construction techniques are in place to protect nearby structures and communities, while traditional craftsmanship and indigenous materials will be used to restore the integrity of this unique architecture, and to ensure that the beauty and cultural legacy of Huǒ Chuán Láng are well-preserved.

Inspired by the philosophy of Yin and Yang—balancing calming energy with revitalizing spirit—The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok, The Riverside is envisioned as a harmonious sanctuary where wellness, heritage, and spirituality converge across both banks of the Chao Phraya River. The development blends 19th-century architecture with a new integrated wellness complex. A 20-storey main tower will house luxury guest rooms, a panoramic rooftop restaurant, a grand ballroom and additional dining venues. Two restored buildings will offer additional guest rooms, a restaurant, and an expansive wellness center, bringing the total to 168 keys. Across the river, the Song Wat Shophouse is also designed to immerse guests experience in the rich cultural tapestry of the Thai-Chinese riverside community, bringing the total number of guest rooms to 192 keys. The project is designed in line with Green Building principles and is targeting certification—reflecting AWC’s commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible development.

“This milestone reflects our ongoing dedication to Building Better Future for All. The piling marks more than the start of construction – it’s a commitment to protect our cultural heritage and create enduring value. Through thoughtful conservation, inclusive community partnerships, and comprehensive sustainability standards, The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok, The Riverside will stand as a global model for how heritage, well-being, and progress can flourish together – strengthening Thailand’s position as a world-class, global sustainable tourism leader,” Mrs. Wallapa concluded.
