Assembly Supplies Co. Announces Winner of 2020 Welding Scholarship

Winner Sean Wilde will use scholarship to fund studies at Eastern Connecticut State University, Assembly Supplies Co. reports

Assembly Supplies Co. announced the winner of its 2020 Welding Scholarship. Sean Donovan Wilde, a member of the Eastern Connecticut State University Class of 2024, will receive $500 to put toward his studies.

Prevailing over thousands of other applicants, Wilde impressed the scholarship award committee with his essay detailing the most important skills for a welder to possess. Qualified welders are among the most sought-after tradespeople in the United States today, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) also projecting demand to grow at an annual rate of eight to nine percent over the next decade.

As one of the world's leading Leister authorized sales and service centers, Assembly Supplies Co. has for more than 36 years provided, maintained, and repaired many of the tools welders and others need to tackle the most demanding jobs. The company's scholarship is awarded every year to help support promising students who are interested in learning welding and related skills.

"We're proud to announce that Sean Wilde of New Britain, Connecticut is our 2020 Welding Scholarship Winner," said Assembly Supplies Co. President David Van Grol. "Our judges received thousands of applications from bright, ambitious young people who are studying welding, engineering, and associated subjects. Sean's essay really stood out with how vividly it conveyed his deep understanding of and commitment to the profession. The world needs skilled welders more than ever, and we're confident that young people like Sean are going to make many positive contributions in their professional lives and beyond. We're happy to be able to support future welders like Sean, and we look forward to receiving and reviewing many applications for our scholarship next year, as well."

The BLS estimates that about 439,000 people currently work as "welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers" nationwide. While skills like soldering are sometimes acquired through on-the-job training, welding often involves specialized techniques the mastery of which requires more formal study.

The annual Assembly Supplies Co. Welding Scholarship was conceived to help fill a longstanding need among employers for qualified welders. Information about how to apply for the 2021 scholarship award can be found on the Hot Air Tools Welding Scholarship page:
