Alpha Apparel and Promotions of Elk River is one locally-owned small business that’s thriving in a stale economy. This year, Alpha Apparel is expanding its product line to include conceal-and-carry accessories, they’re hiring a new sales rep and, at the start of the fourth quarter, they’re reporting growth of almost 28% over 2012. —
In September, Alpha diversified its promotional offerings through the addition of Pistol Packin’ Mamas, a new conceal-and-carry product line that includes accessories targeted to the special needs of women gun carriers.
Alpha Apparel owner Gretchen Morris and a partner, Shaun Kaeding, started the new division because of their involvement in the sport. The pair understands what women need and want in a conceal-and-carry product. They plan to offer the product through home parties, trade shows, gun shows, special events and ladies’ nights at local ranges. They’re partnering with Zylstra Harley Davidson (Elk River) in November for a conceal and carry awareness and education event.
Alpha’s double-digit growth has also afforded Morris the ability to hire a new sales rep to help expand the business.. Michelle Jackson joined the company as an outside sales rep on October 1. She brings two years of promotional selling experience and a loyal client base to her new role, and she’ll be tasked with attending local business networking groups and growing the overall client base for Alpha Apparel, metro-wide.
Morris has also hired a local firm, Social Karma Marketing, to help improve Alpha’s online visibility and to target core corporate markets through an integrated social media, SEO and video marketing initiative.
“Thanks to the strong performance of my core business, I’m now able to expand into new niches as the market demands. The new Pistol Packin’ Mamas Line is a perfect example of being ready with the right product offering at the right time. I’m happy to be in a position to enter new markets, hire sales people and employ other local businesses - all of which help the local economy even more.”
Morris is a member of the Advertising Specialties Institute, where she’s enrolled in both BASi and MASi (Bachelor’s and Master’s of Advertising Specialty Information) courses to further her ad specialties expertise.
