The event was jointly organized by the Social Sports Guidance Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Chinese Dragon Boat Association, the Guangxi Social Sports Development Center, the CPC Teng County Committee and the Teng County People’s Government. It aimed to promote sporting and cultural exchanges between China and ASEAN countries through traditional Chinese sports. The competition featured two divisions—the Open Division and the Mass Participation Division—with 200-meter and 500-meter straight-course races for 22-person dragon boats in each.

On the morning of October 24, drumbeats and cheers echoed across the river as 27 teams, comprising nearly 600 competitors from China, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Indonesia, took to the water. After two days of racing, including preliminary rounds, quarterfinals and finals, the final standings in each division were confirmed.
Local teams delivered strong performances. The Teng County Jianhui Paper Dragon Boat Team won both the 200-meter and 500-meter titles in the Mass Participation Division, while the Guangxi Teng County Dragon Boat Team won both titles in the Open Division.
Teams competing in both distances were also ranked on their combined results. In the Mass Participation Division, the Teng County Jianhui Paper Dragon Boat Team finished first overall, followed by the Hezhou Shifu Dragon Boat Team and the Guigang Pingnan Heshan Dragon Boat Team. In the Open Division, the Guangxi Teng County Dragon Boat Team took first place overall, followed by the Dongguan Zhongtang Huangyong Laoyou Dragon Boat Club and the Hubei University of Science and Technology Dragon Boat Team.

In recent years, Teng County has drawn on its strong tradition of dragon boat racing and dragon and lion dances to expand exchanges with ASEAN countries.
An official from the Teng County Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau said: “We have organized dragon and lion dance teams to perform and compete in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and other countries. We have also invited dragon boat teams from ASEAN countries to compete in Teng County. In addition, we have promoted investment opportunities and showcased products at the China–ASEAN Expo and trade exhibitions overseas. These efforts have brought together several forms of exchange: taking lion dance performances abroad, welcoming visiting dragon boat teams, encouraging mutual learning through intangible cultural heritage, expanding markets for ceramics, creating opportunities for cooperation through exhibitions, and strengthening connections through ports.”
