Her presentation, "Age SMART - The Top 5 Legal Issues You Needed to Know...Yesterday" will address the legal challenges currently faced by older Americans as a result of complications arising from the aging process.

Wipp will begin her presentation with a discussion of the impact of the Baby Boom on society and the economy due to the estimated increase by the U.S. Census Bureau of the elder population from over 40 million today, to over  81.2 million by 2040. She will then review the five legal issues every senior, adult child & professional working with older Americans must be aware of, and offer comprehensive strategies and solutions in order to effectively meet these challenges.

Through the framework of  "Age SMART" Planning, attendees will become familiar with the most common misconceptions related to law and aging, and how to guide loved ones, clients and patients through the legal and regulatory maze of planning for potential age-related needs and disability:

S = Start Early - Planning when you can make your own choices
M = More Elder-Centric Planning - Focus on the needs of the Older American
A = Analyze Long Term Care Options - Understand what you really need and when
R = Retirement Mythology - Retirement Isn't What it Was 20 Years Ago
T = Train Yourself - Be prepared to help an Older American in Need

Further, attendees will learn how to spot legal issues that may affect persons in aging communities, and will gain knowledge of legal issues not commonly addressed or properly understood, such as the legal responsibilities involved when representing an older American as power of attorney. They will further understand why "conventional wisdom" won't work in our current legal/regulatory environment. Finally, they will have an understanding of the types of resources available to get the older American or family member to resources when legal issues arise.

Audrey Ehrhardt, currently the Office Management Director at ElderCounsel, LLC, will be a co-presenter with Nicole Wipp. Ehrhardt is on the management team of ElderCounsel and was a practicing elder law attorney in several counties in the Tampa Bay area as the owner of The Ehrhardt Elder Law Offices, P.A. Audrey focused her practice on creating a dedicated, compassionate environment where seniors and their loved ones knew a team supported them when making important long term care and elder law decisions.
