Spacesaver has published a case study highlighting the completion of a space-efficient storage locker installation for campus police at a prominent state university.

With its new case study, Spacesaver details its achievements in a project designed to solve storage issues for campus police. Its project involved the successful installation of Z-Lockers with sufficient space to hold long guns and gear bags - secured by lock hasps.

The case study illustrates the difficulties experienced by a long-suffering university police department - with outdated facilities hindering staff’s ability to serve their campus. A primary issue was a lack of secure storage space, leaving campus police nowhere to keep their weaponry and duty bags on-site.

“The department had open shelving for officers to store duty bags during their off hours - but the cubbies were unsecured and gear could get borrowed or lost,” explains Spacesaver. As such, the main priority was to add conveniently accessible lockers to the department’s briefing room.

Spacesaver was able to meet this demand, with its case study summarizing the team’s extensive work in designing and fitting suitable Z-Locker units. Each unit contained two compartments - at 60 compartments in total, this provided sufficient storage space in 30 units. The document explains the dimensions of these lockers alongside their security features.

As written in the case study: “The width of the lockers was only 18” for two users. Each officer’s long gun and duty bag are secured near the patrol briefing area and both items are stored in a single locker with one lock.”

Due to the narrow width of each locker, Spacesaver recounts the space-efficient storage arrangement presented by its installations. With two officers to each unit, these lockers were able to maximize the accessible storage space afforded to campus security personnel.

The report further notes the choice of locks favored by the department, opting for lock hasps. Spacesaver designed a practical solution that prevented the locking mechanisms from interfering with gun cases, placing individual compartment locks at the top and bottom of each unit.

“Officers decided that being able to store the guns in the cases was worth the minor inconvenience of some officers needing to bend down to access the locks,” writes Spacesaver. “Bases elevate the lockers off the floor.”

As a manufacturer of integrated storage options, Spacesaver continues to design and install high-concept solutions that combine space efficiency with security - aiding professional staff in a range of industries around the world.
