In response to recent changes made by Google, SB Media Group, a new web service allows business owners to install an SSL Certificate on their website with the click of a button. Additionally, the site explains in simple language what an SSL certificate is, why it’s so important, and why website owners and managers need to make the transition to SSL as soon as possible.

SSL stands for secure socket layer. In short, SSL builds a secure socket around your website by encrypting plain text, such as passwords and credit card information, into data that cannot be read by anyone other than the intended recipient. Whenever a web browser detects an SSL Certificate it will create a special, secure connection that will protect the privacy of anyone who uses that website.

It used to be that only websites that collected private or financial information were required to have SSL. Beginning in January 2017, however, Google announced that it would begin displaying the words, “Not Secure,” in front of any website URL that was not on a SSL secured connection.

Instead of HTTP, a website secured with an SSL certificate always starts with HTTPS. Now in front of the HTTPS, your visitors will also see a green closed padlock, indicating to web users that you your website is protected and so is their privacy. Customers will know they can trust your website and should have no concerns about providing you with their personal information.

In an effort to further encourage the move toward a totally secure internet, beginning January 2018, Google will begin using SSL as a search engine ranking signal. This is very important because it means that SSL secured websites will have an SEO advantage over any websites that don’t not have SSL. In other words, if you don’t have an SSL certificate installed, your competitor who does will have an advantage over you.

Google will be rolling out these changes slowly throughout 2018, rather than all at once.

“This is one of the most important changes on the web right now. Essentially, businesses owners are being forced to make the transition from HTTP to HTTPS,” stated Sue Bookhout, President of SB Media Group. “It’s a change for the good, however a lot of website owners are confused and not sure how to make the transition. We want to be their trusted advisor and provide the information and services they need to succeed online. Our new website SSLResources.com will allow any sized business a pain-free way to move to SSL by simply clicking the checkout button and then providing their website login details. We take care of the rest making it a simple and fast solution for busy business owners”
