Regular eye exams for children are essential for optimal vision and eye health, their impact also extending in other areas of child development. Adequate vision promotes optimal visual processing skills which are essential for learning abilities in general, and routine eye care can help minimize the risk of health problems later on.
The new campaign by Focal Pointe Eye Care aims to provide professional vision screening for children experiencing homelessness.
The children’s eye exams available at the West Chester optometry center have been optimized for the needs of young patients, being interactive and child-friendly.
The exam includes basic visual acuity tests, as well as binocular vision tests – how well the eyes work together – focusing ability, peripheral vision, hand-eye coordination, color vision and many others.
All tests are adapted to the age group of each child.
With the latest announcement, Focal Pointe Eye Care continues to expand its range of community-oriented optometry and eye care services.
Children experiencing homelessness may not have access to vision care services which is why the entire Focal Point Eye Care team packed up their equipment and brought it to the kids summer camp at Upspring in Cincinnati. Of the 42 children who received vision screenings, half need and will receive prescription glasses for vision correction. “With new glasses, the children will be able to see clearly, giving them the greatest opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest.” said Dr. Micheal Lyons, owner and optometrist at Focal Pointe Eye Care.
