Plant-based diets are becoming increasingly popular - however, they can cause problems around the holidays given that many traditional favorites include animal products. One food enthusiast has released an online cooking class on how to make plant-based alternatives for holiday celebrations.

Scoop Intelligence’s classes provide students with vegan recipes and a chance to cook alongside the instructor. Students will not only learn plant-based recipes but will come away with tips for reducing kitchen waste and sustainable cooking practices.

This release offers vegans, vegetarians or those looking to reduce their environmental impact access to a fun and easy cooking class for holiday meals.

Plant-based diets are more sustainable compared to those reliant on meat and other animal products. One study found that if plant-based diets were taken up globally, then 75% of global farmland could be saved from environmental degradation. Despite the benefits associated with the diet, only 4% of Americans are completely vegan, in part due to cultural reliance on animal products.

Scoop Intelligence’s new classes help combat the cultural barriers to a vegan diet by providing students with simple and delicious alternative recipes for traditional holiday meals. The program consists of engaging cooking videos, recipe PDFs, grocery lists, and a cook-along session.

The program will go over 7 recipes over 10 classes. Students will learn to make classics like mashed-potatoes, green pea casserole, dinner roles, apple crisp, veggie pot pie and sweet potato casserole.

The first two classes in the series will cover helpful basics for sustainable and plant-based eating as well as meal planning and shopping guides. These lessons will help students minimize food waste and time spent cooking on some of the most important days of the year.

Scoop Intelligence began as an off-shoot of Scoop Marketplace, a brick-and-mortar zero-waste grocery store based in Seattle, WA. As part of its mission to normalize sustainable habits, the shop launched Scoop Intelligence to provide people with education opportunities for eco-living.

With this latest announcement, the company reaffirms its commitment to helping clients make simple lifestyle choices that align with their values.

A spokesperson for the company said: “Our recipes are full of the flavor and nostalgia of traditional holiday favorites, but lovingly adapted to create a fully plant-based menu. This program shows students exactly how to make a meal that everyone can enjoy. We are building new traditions for a more sustainable, and truly delicious future.”
