A new home needs to include love-this-too-much-to-part-with-it pieces, or the experience of downsizing won’t be a happy one.Measure, measure, and measure, again. This step is most important. Even if the homeowner’s/strata association, real estate agent or landlord comes up with a floor plan, measure anyway! Some of those plans are almost never correct, and even a few inches can make a huge difference in a small space. Get permission from the seller or the owner to spend an hour or so measuring the new home. It’s smart to measure all of the rooms — and especially the larger living spaces. Use a 25-foot tape measure rather than a 12-foot one, because it makes the job so much easier. Measure the room length, width and height, then measure all the doors and windows, and also measure such things as, position of air conditioners, heating vents and electrical outlets. Use a graph sheet to draw t scale as best as possible. It will be of great help later. Don’t forget to check any existing lighting and see if the furniture will fit with the location of these fixtures.

Doors are especially important, because house furniture, usually much larger in size, may not always fit through the doors or narrow hallways of the new apartment. The next step is to measure the width and depth of all the furniture that will be moved to the new place. For immediate help call Renata Bellentani at 604.336.1034
