Climb to the top of Nang Yuan Island – Located to the north-west of mainland Koh Tao, the little island is a small chunk of paradise, straight out of Robinson Crusoe. Made up of three partially connected outcrops of land, Nang Yuan is a popular place to spend a day away from the busy, built up beach resorts prevalent on the main island. A narrow stretch of white coral sand connects the land and the bright blue water fills in the space. It is not only photogenic, but also a wonderful place to relax, write a letter home, read a book and be peaceful. Wooden walkways wind their way around the land, through woodland and over the grey rocks, linking the island together without standing out and spoiling the views.
Where to stay overnight – The island is expensive on all accounts, so it’s better for backpackers to stay on the mainland and charter a long tail. The resort does however boast a restaurant which serves refreshments and sustenance to keep backpackers going through the day, so it’s a good place to get settled in between swimming and exploring.
How to hire a boat to explore the Island – Travellers can hire a private long tail boat here for the day for less that 400B, departing from most of the main beaches on Koh Tao. Allow this to be a full day trip and pre-arrange a pickup time with the boat driver.
