-- Asta Pratapaviciene has started a GoFundMe fundraiser to secure critical medical care for her partner, Raimondas, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma—a highly aggressive and complex brain tumour. The campaign, 'You're My Only Hope,' aims to raise £100,000 to fund a personalised treatment plan that is not available through the National Health Service (NHS).

Asta's campaign follows her discovery of a specialised private treatment that targets the specific type of cancer that has affected Raimondas.
While the NHS offers standard therapies such as surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, access to the latest glioblastoma clinical trials and treatments remains limited. According to a 2025 population-based study in England, only 29% of glioblastoma patients receive aggressive multi-modality treatment that combines surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, while 21% receive no treatment at all.
Glioblastoma affects approximately 3,000 people annually, with survival rates remaining stubbornly low. Only about 30% of patients receive a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, and the median survival time is just 12 to 15 months. For those unable to access advanced therapies, the prognosis is even more challenging.
Asta shared the emotional impact of Raimondas's diagnosis and the motivation behind the fundraiser. "We met eight years ago, both emerging from difficult divorces and finally found happiness and peace in each other," she said. "We were planning our future together when everything changed overnight with this heartbreaking diagnosis."
Glioblastoma is known for its rapid progression and resistance to conventional treatments. Newer therapies—such as immunotherapy, targeted molecular treatments, and tumour-treating fields—are showing promise but are only accessible privately due to their cost and experimental status.
At the time of writing, the 'You're My Only Hope' campaign has received support from over 160 donors, raising just 6% of the target. "We're asking for your kindness and support to help us afford this treatment. Every donation, no matter how small, will bring us closer to giving Raimondas a fighting chance," says Asta.
