As one of the largest humanitarian crises of this century unfolds in Gaza, Goodwill Caravan is proud to be providing emergency relief and aid to families and children that have been displaced by the conflict—specifically: food, medical aid, shelter and mental health support.
Amongst a barrage of initiatives, the charitable organisation has set up the Salaam Centre in Cairo, where they are currently sheltering Palestinian refugees and facilitating their more permanent resettlement within Egypt.
According to recent UNHCR estimates, there are well over 100,000 refugees from Gaza currently in Egypt, where they join almost one million refugees, primarily from Sudan. As the latest findings from the UNHCR and the Egyptian Red Crescent reveal, the country’s already stressed support systems are at critical capacity as they face this influx of vulnerable refugees.
As such, it is up to charitable organisations like Goodwill Caravan to fill the gap. However, they rely on the support and donations of the UK public.
Through their urgent donation drive, they are calling for UK families and donors to provide funding for one or more of their initiatives. Donors can opt to provide a displaced family with a food parcel for one month with a contribution of just £10, or to provide a displaced family with shelter for one month with £100.
Other popular options include sponsoring an orphan program. As the charity explained, for £150, an orphan can receive food, healthcare, mental health support and education for one month. And, with an additional £45, they can join a sports club and participate in other wellbeing activities, allowing them to find community, build new skills and experience a glimpse of normalcy.
General donations of any sum are also welcome as the Gaza crisis worsens.
With the death toll in Gaza, per the OHCHR, having eclipsed 52,500 people, and with 70% of these deaths being women and children, the team at Goodwill Caravan implores families in the UK to dig deep and help the Palestinian families who are escaping war.
A spokesperson for the Fundraising Regulator (FR) registered charity, which has helped over 220,000 refugees to date, said, "Goodwill Caravan is a non-profit humanitarian charity that provides essential protection services, including emergency aid distributions, shelter for the most vulnerable, and legal and medical support for refugees and displaced populations. We are dedicated to supporting those in crisis and helping them rebuild their lives."
