The announcement highlights sobering statistics among America’s population. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the leading cause of death in the U.S. is cardiovascular disease, with over 800,000 Americans dying from heart attacks or strokes annually. Further statistics show that up to 40% of heart attack patients and decedents lack traditional risk factors like elevated cholesterol, hypertension, and diabetes.

Because standard cholesterol tests do not give a clear indication of a patient’s risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, Proactive Wellness Centers has developed their Advanced Cardiac Evaluation (ACE) Program to examine other factors such as chronic silent inflammation, genetics, and lifestyle. This program uses biomarker information and other tools to provide patients with a complete risk profile that can aid in the early detection of cardiovascular diseases.

During the evaluation, Proactive Wellness Centers will use True Health Lab advanced testing, a diagnostic procedure that is more effective in identifying biomarkers strongly associated with cardiovascular disease than standard lipid panels.

As part of the assessment process, the practice will also perform Carotid Intima Media Thickness (CIMT) Imaging with HeartSmartIMTplus, an inexpensive and non-invasive imaging test that can be carried out in-house. This tool can detect deposits of soft plaque and measure the intima media thickness of the carotid artery, allowing physicians to determine whether a patient has subclinical atherosclerosis.

Depending on the results of the exams, Proactive Wellness Centers may recommend their Advanced Cardiac Treatment (ACT) Program, a treatment plan that typically accompanies the ACE Program. This will provide patients with a personalized roadmap of science-based health regimens they can follow to reduce their chances of having a heart attack or stroke.
