Course options at the Tilbury school range from a five-day route from car licence to Category C for rigid vehicles, up to a ten-day course taking learners directly to Category C+E for articulated lorries. A separate five-day upgrade is available for existing Category C holders progressing to C+E, with practical tuition delivered in a Mercedes Actros or DAF rigid vehicle.
A 2026 Department for Transport survey found that 26% of UK HGV businesses reported driver vacancies in the final quarter of 2025, up from 24% a year earlier. Among businesses with vacancies, the most common reasons cited were better pay elsewhere, existing drivers leaving the industry and driver retirement, while a quarter pointed to new drivers not entering the profession at all.
TRS Training's Tilbury courses are structured to help address that gap in new driver entry, offering routes for complete beginners as well as licence holders looking to progress. Alongside privately funded commercial courses, learners may access training through employer funded routes, Level 2 apprenticeships or HGV Skills Bootcamps where regional funding allows, subject to eligibility.
