Southern California Pulmonary & Sleep Disorders Medical Center (805-557-9930) has announced the availability of the FDA-cleared Bongo Rx sleep apnea therapy device, targeting persistent treatment gaps amid a nationwide sleep apnea crisis.

-- Following the announcement, the Thousand Oaks sleep clinic now offers the Bongo Rx sleep apnea therapy device in response to growing concerns over underdiagnosed and untreated cases of sleep apnea in the United States.

The device aims to address longstanding barriers to care for the estimated 30 million Americans affected by sleep apnea. According to recent data, up to 90 percent of cases remain undiagnosed, and nearly one-third of those diagnosed do not currently receive any form of treatment. The medical center seeks to expand access to viable treatments by offering a compact, electricity-free solution that requires no batteries, humidifiers, or external machines.

"The Bongo Rx device represents the next leap in sleep apnea therapy," said Dr. Ronald A. Popper, MD, FCCP, FAASM, DABSM. "Millions of people suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, and if left untreated, this sleep disorder can be detrimental to both health and quality of life."

Designed with portability in mind, the device comes with soft silicone nasal pillows that form a seal within the nasal openings. During inhalation, built-in valves open to allow airflow. During exhalation, the valves close, directing air through calibrated vent holes to generate expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP). This mechanism keeps the airway open, reducing interruptions to breathing during sleep.

The lightweight design allows for discreet use in a variety of environments, including at home, during travel, and in off-grid locations. It is especially suited for patients who struggle with CPAP compliance or who require a supplemental option to conventional therapy.
