ANTIGUA, GUATEMALA — The Pickleball Experience has announced two seven-night retreat sessions in Antigua, Guatemala, set for February 13-20, 2027, and February 22-March 1, 2027. The all-inclusive program combines world-class coaching, luxury accommodations, and cultural excursions for active adults seeking both athletic development and a true vacation experience.
The retreats address growing demand among active adults for wellness travel that blends fitness, personal growth, and destination experiences. Each session is capped at 20 participants, maintaining a 4:1 or better student-to-coach ratio. Before arrival, participants complete a personalized form detailing their training goals, allowing the coaching team to build a fully customized curriculum — no two experiences are ever the same.
World-Class Instruction
Daily coaching sessions take place at Club 14, a private sports facility in San Miguel Dueñas featuring seven courts — two indoor and five outdoor — set against views of the surrounding volcanoes. The week includes more than 12 hours of world-class instruction and open play with the pros every single day, led by coaches Brian, Peter, and Jem.
Beyond on-court training, the program includes a 1.5-hour Mental Game Clinic — consistently cited by past participants as the week's most unexpected highlight — and a 1.5-hour Film Study Session, where coaches break down high-level match footage with each player. Daily Morning Reset Sessions add guided mobility, flexibility, and yoga-infused movement to prime the body for peak performance and reduce injury risk throughout the week.
Accommodations and Dining
Participants stay at Porta Hotel Antigua, a boutique property featuring Spanish colonial architecture, lush gardens, and a solar-heated pool. An on-site spa offers Swedish massage, aromatherapy, and reflexology for recovery between sessions.
All meals are included: buffet breakfast at Porta Hotel, lunch at Club 14 / Cerveceria 14, and dinner at Hector's Bistro, where farm-to-table cuisine highlights local ingredients and traditional Guatemalan flavors.
Cultural Excursions
The retreat extends well beyond the court. Included excursions feature a visit to a working macadamia farm in the Guatemalan highlands, a hands-on bean-to-bar chocolate workshop tracing Guatemalan cacao from raw bean to finished bar, salsa lessons with local instructors, and a guided walking tour through Antigua's UNESCO-protected colonial streets, ruins, and hidden courtyards.
All airport transfers and ground transportation are arranged and included, with participants flying into La Aurora International Airport, where The Pickleball Experience provides pickup and daily shuttle service to Club 14 and other local courts.
Holistic Services
Optional holistic services extend the retreat's focus beyond physical training. Energy healing sessions with Samara, a holistic wellness practitioner, and intuitive guidance from Jzeela, a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, support participants in releasing mental blocks and gaining clarity. Optional Add-On Excursions
For participants seeking additional adventure, optional excursions are available for a separate fee, including a hike up one of Guatemala's most iconic active volcanoes and a jade-making workshop, where participants carve their own jade piece while learning the stone's cultural and historical significance.
Post-Retreat Tournament
The week following the second retreat session, Antigua will host a pickleball tournament at Club 14. While not part of the official retreat package, the tournament offers participants from either session an optional extended-stay opportunity to compete within the local pickleball community on March 4, 2027.
