Saint Louis, MO (March 30th, 2018) – The People’s Counsel would like to make citizens aware of their ability to negate or reduce criminal charges. Two recent examples include a man being acquitted of drug possession charges and a man receiving a six year sentence instead of a life sentence. Both examples highlight the prowess of The People’s Counsel team and reaffirm their dedication to preventing police and prosecution oversight.
The case of drug possession involved a man in North City St. Louis. A team of SWAT police officers forced their way into a house expecting to find multiple firearms and a considerable amount of narcotics. The officers used a taser on the man twice as he sat in the front room of the house. The search warrant was issued with the intent of finding weapons and a large quantity of drugs, but only a backpack with marijuana was found. During trial the truth came out. The jury discovered that the defendant was only a guest in the residence that was raided and found him to be not guilty.
The second case was a man from Alton, Illinois who was in jeopardy of serving a life sentence for 1st degree murder. He allegedly shot someone in the torso three times. The defense filed multiple motions and underwent a lengthy case investigation, ultimately leading the prosecution to doubt the possibility of a successful trial. Instead, the man was offered a vastly reduced charge: the minimum sentence of six years.
