The Connection Between Bacteria Removal & A Telescopic Microfiber Mop System

Share this news:

Several studies have shown that cotton mops only move germs around compared to microfiber that actually removes 99% of bacteria.

Microfiber’s ability to remove bacteria even without chemicals is matched by none. Several studies have shown that microfiber is better than cotton at capturing bacteria. The University of California, Davis Medical Center compared the amount of bacteria picked up by a cotton-loop mop and by a microfiber mop. The cotton-loop mop reduced bacteria on the floors by 30%, whereas the microfiber mop reduced bacteria by 99%.

The reason microfiber can remove bacteria has to do with how small the fibers in microfiber actually are, they are smaller than a strand of silk. Microfiber materials made for cleaning, clean on a microscopic scale. Also, the positively charged microfibers attract dust and the tiny fibers are able to penetrate the microscopic surface pores of flooring pulling out germs and bacteria.

According to a study done by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), “Microfiber cleaning materials are a blend of microscopic polyester and polyamide fibers which are split in such a way as to create microscopic “hooks” which act as claws that scrape up and hold dust, dirt, and grime. They are 1/16 the thickness of a human hair and can hold 7 times their weight in water.”

“There really is no match for microfiber when it comes to removing bacteria with a cloth,” said Brian from Temples Pride, the creator of the Dredge microfiber mop system. “The fact that hospitals use these types of mops is saying quite a lot.”

“I work for a hospital and we use something similar to this. It works great at work so I figured I’d get one for the house. Absolutely the best dust mop/wet mop for all floors and sturdy enough to press down and scrub without the handle breaking!” Said Ashley in her Amazon review of the Dredge mop.

Temples Pride was founded in 2015 and is dedicated to reducing their environmental impact by helping to protect critical forest habitat. For every mop that they sell, they plant 1 tree. Their Dredge microfiber mop has been available on Amazon since 2016 and has risen to become the best selling mop in its class.
