The creators of the Dredge microfiber hardwood floor mop have pledged to plant even more trees this year than they did last year. The announcement has come as 2021 begins and Temples Pride reevaluates their goals looking for ways that they can reduce their environmental impact. Normally, when customers purchase a Dredge microfiber mop, they get to choose where in the world they would like to plant one tree, however, for the first month of 2021, Temples Pride has pledged that instead of giving customers just one tree with their choice, they will now have two.
According to the world resources institute, the tropics lost 11.9 million hectares of tree cover in 2019, and nearly one-third, 3.8 million hectares, happened in humid tropical forests. These tropical rainforests are especially mature areas of forest very important for biodiversity and the amount of carbon they take in. 3.8 million hectares is the equivalent of a football pitch of extremely mature rain forest being cut down every seven seconds, for a year.
“We are really proud to be planting trees and doing our bit to help the environment,” Said a spokesperson from Temples pride, “It’s scary to think about how fast we are losing trees every single day. It’s also just so daunting to actually stop and think about how many trees equate to a football field every seven seconds. That’s why for the start of 2021 we are going to double how many trees we would normally plant.”
