Stars & Stripes USA 11 was named winner of the New Year’s Day Race, San Diego Bay 2019 beating out 120 other competitors to take home top honors. San Diego Yacht Club presented the award to Stars & Stripes USA 11 San Diego Bay. Potential award recipients were required to SDYC’s New Year’s Day race features fleet racing in San Diego Bay to kick off the new year. in order to be in contention for the New Year’s Day Race, San Diego Bay 2019, and were judged based on For all classes, the finishing line will be located in the vicinity of San Diego Channel Buoy #17. The finish line will be between Mark #5 to port and a staff with an orange flag displayed on the R/C vessel at the starboard end., The time limit for finishing is 1600. Boats not finished within the time limit will be scored as DNF. This modifies RRS 35, and Classes 1-5 will be scored with the ‘time-ontime’ scoring method using the Time Correction Factor (TCF’s) assigned to each boat. Boats will be ranked by corrected time, where a boat’s Corrected Time = Elapsed Time . Lynn Hannah, Owner, Captain of Stars & Stripes USA 11 was pleased about the company’s performance, saying:
“Rounding the final mark put the wind behind us as we headed for the finish line. Again, we chose not to put up anything larger than a small jib. For safety reasons, we didn’t want to risk putting up more sail area in wind gusting to 25 knots. The yacht who was trailing us so far away was catching up. They had decided to put up their spinnaker! Fortunately we crossed the finish line first, by a mere 5 seconds. First across the finish line, what a great way to start off the the year 2019 with a BANG!”
