Switching from Driven Piles to Earth Anchor Solar Racks: Benefits Guide Launched

Share this news:

A new guide from Nuance Energy Group Inc (+1-877-537-2221) will help solar contractors learn about and adapt to the patented earth anchor technology which makes ground-mounted installations more time- and cost-effective.

-- The recently published guide focuses on the benefits of using the earth anchor over the traditional pile driving methods previously used to safely secure solar racking in place.

Many solar contractors avoid doing ground-mounted projects because of the myriad of challenges they present, explained Nuance Energy. Geotechnical reports, costly excavations, heavy machinery, and the large highly skilled teams required to prepare the site and lay the pile-driven foundations all contribute to lengthy installation times and high costs in both labor and equipment.

Nuance Energy’s guide, however, explains that by switching to the company’s Osprey PowerPlatform®, which uses the patented earth anchor method, solar installers can overcome these obstacles.

The Osprey PowerPlatform® is designed to be quick and easy to install. The guide explains that there are no ground preparations or concrete required, as the earth anchor bores directly into the ground. Time is also saved thanks to the earth anchor’s small 1.5-inch diameter footprint and the rack’s adjustable leg heights which eliminate the need for ground clearing and levelling.

The portable, modular system Nuance Energy has designed means that a small, three-person crew can install a 6kW PV system in under an hour using only simple hand tools. Using this system, the guide estimates, a “2MW project that might normally take 60 days can be completed in just 16”. Therefore, solar contractors can complete more projects in the same timeframe as traditional installations, allowing for business expansion and greater sales figures.

The quicker installation time offered by earth anchors over pile driving also includes pull-testing for safety and stability. The earth anchor is attached to a 72-inch tether cable driven deep underground creating a hold down strength that exceeds 2 tons. This can all be verified on-site using Nuance Energy’s testing equipment.

"The methodology of securing and pull-testing the anchor is patented, and no one else in the U.S. can do what we do. This gives us a huge competitive edge, especially for installers looking for a faster, more reliable installation method," said a spokesperson for Nuance Energy.
