Summer time brings new opportunities for motorbike riding for women
Better weather and longer days mean more people want to get on a motorcycle. It also means that more women than ever are expected to sign up for motorcycle rider training with the MTS Sussex Motorcycle Training School.
Motorcycle rider training for women offered
The MTS Sussex Motorcycle Training School is offering lessons for women who want to learn how to ride a motorbike. The school offers training at various locations in Sussex (Crawley, Burgess Hill, East Grinstead & Haywards Heath) in the south of England. The family-run training school has a passion for motorcycling which is both safe and fun. The spring and summer seasons see a high demand for its offer of a variety of training courses – from the CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) to A1 (125cc Restricted Licence) to the ‘all new’ A2 (now on a restricted MT-07), to DAS (category A or direct access) and the ERS (Enhanced Rider Scheme). However the training school is now putting the spotlight on women and offering ‘one for the ladies!’.
Rise in popularity of motorcycling sees school offer motorcycle lessons for women
Despite the traditional male-dominated image of motorcycling, this two-wheeled phenomenon is becoming more popular with women. UK Statistics shows that there are now over half a million women holding full motorcycle licences.
“I did it!” – Women on bikes attracted to freedom, independence and adventure!
The MTS Sussex School co-owner Nikki Smithson-Birch said: “Being a motorbike rider myself it’s always nice to see other females getting out on their bikes and enjoying the freedom of two wheels, and being a female instructor too, it’s an even better feeling being part of that journey with them and to see them reach their own goal on a motorbike, whether that’s just a taster to say “I did it”, a CBT to get them from A to B, or a full licence for hobby, work, commuting or racing.”
The school has standard Yamaha 125’s and custom bikes available for the Compulsory Basic Training which is ideal for the usually shorter legs of ladies. For the full licence training they offer a new fleet of Yamaha MT-07’s, a few of which are lowered making them ideal for women who need it. Female instructors are available too for ladies who prefer that.
Past female students have been delighted with their experience at MTS Sussex. Vikki Chalke was initially a nervous student who then went on to pass first time. Vikki said: “I was a bundle of nerves when I came to MTS but knew getting my license was what I wanted. Matt & Nikki reassured me the only thing holding me back was my confidence. A few lessons and a lot of coaxing and they were right. I passed my test and have never looked back.”
