Rap is an ever popular medium for sharing information in a fun and entertaining way. A new rap video has been released on Youtube and is dedicated to the tradition of burying a Saint Joseph statue in a garden to help sell houses.
The use of speech as part of rap makes it very effective for communicating messages in a memorable way. For some people rap is associated with gangsta rap and the associated ‘gangster’ or ‘thug’ lifestyle. However many others find that the fast rate of speech in rap is a good way to pack a lot of information into short soundbites.
People all over the world turn to the Saint Joseph garden statue to help sell their houses quickly. The house selling short cut is used by individual house sellers and realtors of all religions.
The tradition seems to date back some centuries to a group of nuns who buried a statue of Saint Joseph to try to secure a particular piece of land that they wanted for the construction of a convent. According to popular legend the statue worked and the nuns got the piece of land that they desired.
Nowadays the statue is buried upside down by house sellers rather than buyers and the current ritual involves burying the statue upside down in the front lawn of the house to be sold.
Saint Joseph was the foster father of Jesus and is seen as the patron saint of households.
The new Youtube video is a short rap video which celebrates the St. Joseph house selling tradition. ‘So far the video has received very positive feedback from viewers’ said a leading online seller of the statue in Dublin today.’We hope that we can promote this wonderful tradition amongst the younger generation by reaching out through the twin forces of Youtube and rap’.
