Spanish Sports Network, a leading media company in the Latino Markets, today announced it acquired La Mega 105.7, an innovative Latino Radio Station in Philadelphia. This acquisition represents an important element in Spanish Sports Network’s strategy to capitalize on the growth trends of the hispanic community in the Region and beyond. Acquiring La Mega 105.7 will accelerate Spanish Sports Network’s plans to increase it’s reach into the fastest growing demographic in the U.S.
Hispanic families media choices tend to gravitate to higher media brand loyalty, 13% higher in fact, than the general population. That loyalty transfers to, on average, a significant 26-30 hours per week. Another factor in the demographic focus, is that over 60% of the U.S. Hispanic population is under age 35 and 75% is under 45 years. The averages out to a median age of the Latino population to 28 years old, while the total market median is 37 years of age. The Hispanic community is forecast to grow by about 167% between 2010 and 2050, at which point they will reach 132.8 million (30% of the entire population).
Capitalizing on those demographics, along with the purchase of the spanish only speaking radio station, S.S.N. has announced an exclusive media agreement with the NFL to broadcast Philadelphia Eagles games to the Spanish speaking markets in Philadelphia, Allentown, and Atlantic City coverage areas. The NFL predicts its Hispanic fan base to reach 50 million in the next 15 years. One out of every five Hispanics in the U.S. are avid NFL Fans, eclipsing Hispanics who consider themselves “avid fans” of the MLS, European soccer, Mexican Soccer and the Olympics.
Spanish Sports Network C.E.O. Michael Sciore said “Our goal is to enhance the audience La Mega already has and give the community more opportunities to connect with their culture, and enhance their connection to their city.”
