Sleep Optimization For Biohacking Recovery & Productivity, New Research Released

Although perhaps one of the seemingly easier health goals to achieve, a recommended seven hours of sleep per night is an often overlooked part of overall health and wellbeing, explains Pulsetto. Research published by Harvard University showed the substantive negative impact poor sleep has on chronic health conditions, mental health, and overall longevity. The study showed that those getting less than five hours of rest per night were at a 15% higher risk of mortality than their more well-rested counterparts (1). Pulsetto’s research outlines the strategies that high-profile biohackers use to optimize their sleep. The company found that those with a consistently good night’s rest observed a sleep schedule that worked with the body’s natural circadian rhythm.

Successful sleepers also created a calm environment which was dark, cool, and quiet. They also avoided exposure to the blue light emitted by electronic screens — which affects melatonin production and disrupts the body’s sleep/wake cycle — in the hours before bedtime.

On the other end of the spectrum, getting enough exposure to light during the early part of the day is just as important, according to Pulsetto. They suggest exposure to sunlight in the morning can help the body establish a clearly defined wake window.
