Jenny McGee was thrust into the limelight after Prime Minister Boris Johnson thanked “Jenny from New Zealand” for her astonishing care after he was hospitalised with the Covid-19 virus.
The prime minister praised a number of NHS heroes for his care but singled out Jenny and her colleague, Luis from Portugal, for standing by his bedside for 48-hours when his life was hanging in the balance.
The prime minister’s statement highlighted the sheer dedication of nurses like Jenny and Luis. It also highlighted the pressure and punishing conditions NHS heroes find themselves working in on a daily basis during the ongoing pandemic.
