Laptop computers are a common choice with Easy Payment Options clients because they are compact and affordable and can be rented for a period of either 12, 18 or 24 months. At the end of the rental term the client can make an offer to purchase the items they have rented, usually for a minimal amount such as $1.
With the launch of Easy Payment Options rentals, clients may choose to either pay through Centrepay or Direct Debit. Centrepay is a free bill payment service provided by Centrelink to recipients. This way involves peace of mind for the client because the payment is made automatically on the day the fortnightly Centrelink payment is received.

The other option is to use regular direct debit payments from the client’s bank account. Easy Payment Options advise that this is suitable for people who are good at managing their money and can ensure that the funds are available in their account for direct debit payments.
With the launch of these rental options pre-approval for purchases of items to rent can be obtained from Easy Payment Options, allowing the clients to go and shop for a new laptop, or any other items that have been pre-approved.
An example that illustrates the flexibility and options available follows. At the start of the year a person on a Centrelink Carers Allowance needs a new laptop computer. Knowing that on the 1st of July that year the carer will receive the Centrelink Supplement payment of the amount of $600, the carer applies to Easy Payment Options to rent a laptop of their choice after pre-approval.
A 6 month term is negotiated by the carer with a planned $600 amount ‘owing’ at the end of the term. An offer is made by the client after renting for 6 months to buy the laptop for $600. This offer is accepted and the carer uses their Supplement payment to then become the owner of their new laptop at the end of the rental term.
