Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj) announced a collaboration with Favoriot Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian Internet of Things (IoT) solutions provider, to set up a Smart City IoT platform using Favoriot to boost and create new and innovative Smart City solutions as defined in the Perbadanan Putrajaya Smart City Blueprint.
This project which is funded by the National Technology and Innovation Sandbox (NTIS) is implemented in partnership with PPj and Favoriot within the Single Site Innovation Sandbox category. The agreement signed on 9th December 2022 is to formalize the collaboration to set up a municipal-operated IoT Platform with the first use case of integrating existing Putrajaya multitype sensors.
Favoriot platform is an open-system IoT middleware that can interoperate with different kinds of IoT sensors from multi-vendors. This allows PPj to integrate different IoT solutions and display them on a single dashboard in Putrajaya Command Centre.
In an environment where IoT solutions can be offered by different parties, it can be a problem to manage their data and have multiple dashboards to view. Thus, the Favoriot platform allows for the integration of multi-vendor environments that conforms to standard protocols and are easily displayed and managed by the Putrajaya Command Centre.
PPj via the Putrajaya Smart City Blueprint is heading towards creating a well-connected city for its Internet of Things infrastructure. Dato’ Fadlun bin Mak Ujud, President of PPj said that “We are expanding IoT’s development and use cases in the city to include infrastructure and environmental monitoring. IoT’s impact is one of the things that everyone is talking about nowadays which is part of the fourth Industrial Revolution. We really appreciate the government initiatives under this National Technology and Innovation Sandbox. It gives us new innovative solutions to help us manage our city better and at the same time it gives opportunities for our local entrepreneurs and start-ups to put their resources into further facilitating urban living”
“The Favoriot Smart City IoT platform can also serve as a developer tool for new Start-ups or existing IoT companies to build their IoT solutions as a trial before being launched in a commercial environment”; explains Dr. Mazlan Abbas, CEO of Favoriot. Both Perbadanan Putrajaya and Favoriot currently looking forward to making Putrajaya City a place where local talent gets their IoT solution tested and certified in a real-city environment.
Dr. Mazlan hopes that Putrajaya can become a model for other cities to emulate and develop a similar “innovate and trial-before-commercial” approach. This living lab serves as a great place for other cities to understand how a Smart City should be.
This Sandbox project also provides inputs to the National Smart City Standards Guidelines. Moving forward, Favoriot with the partnership of PPj will also be able to provide IoT training at Putrajaya’s premises to encourage the growth of IoT talents.
The Sandbox project is implemented on the Build-Operate and Transfer Model, where PPj will operate and manage the Smart City IoT Platform. The project already reached a key milestone whereby several existing IoT solutions have been integrated and now operating in Putrajaya Command Centre.
