ICON resin infiltration is an ideal treatment for children who have white spots on their teeth. These white spots are known as white-spot lesions, or WSL’s. They can be caused by poor oral hygiene as well as acid wear that demineralizes the teeth. ICON treatment helps to eliminate these white spots without the need for drills or anesthetic.

Icon resin infiltration can be used for two purposes, both restorative and cosmetic. This technology essentially fills the gap between preventative care, such as dental cleanings and invasive treatments for dental restoration, such as cavity fillings.

Dr. Ellen states that ‘there are numerous benefits; such as pain-free, involves no drilling, prevents dental cavities at an early stage and preserves healthy tooth structure. It’s gentle for difficult-to-reach cavities and there’s no unnecessary loss of healthy hard tissue or invasive drilling.

Early stage cavities between the teeth are detected using x-rays. To treat these with Icon resin infiltration, dentists first use a special rubber band to slightly separate the teeth. The affected tooth will be gently and painlessly prepared with a special dental gel. Dentists then use an ultra-thin applicator to fill the early cavity with Icon.

However, Icon resin infiltration is only appropriate for treating cavities in early stages. Cavities that have progressed beyond the early stage will need a conventional filling or other treatment.

Dr. Ellen Im – Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics has 275 Google Reviews and one patient says ‘Dr. Im is just fantastic. My kids have been going to her for a few years now and they have always had a great experience every visit. Recently my son had a bad bike accident that required emergency dental care. Her office got us in within an hour of the accident occurring, she determined he needed a splint over his top 6-7 teeth. After close to 4 weeks and 3 visits, he is just about back to normal. I don’t know what we would have done without her immediate care. We are just so grateful to have her caring for our kids’.
