Paradise Home Health Care (PHHC) has joined with Florida Movement Therapy Centers and Medijuana Clinics to provide informative and educational presentations about “Medicinal Marijuana and CBD Oils” to various audiences in Palm Beach County.

The first talks were in response to the demand for information by the Parkinson Caregiver Support groups which PHHC volunteers with. Though small, members had many questions regarding use, legality, the process of getting both the CBD oils and a Medical Marijuana card from the State of Florida. They also wanted to know about the pros and cons of use, the myths, how to dose and if both they and their spouses with Parkinson Disease may benefit.

Presentations explore the long history of the Cannabis Plant in medicinal use, a review of the world body of research, discussion of the body’s Endocannabinoid system and natural brain receptors, the myths and how to make an educated decision with a physician.

In 2017 the Florida Legislature and Governor recognized the people had voted to make medicinal Marijuana use (non-smoke able) legal and then put the process in place to obtain Doctor “recommendations” and to receive the Medical Card and dispensary information. Florida joins 27 other states to legalize the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Ed Gray of Florida Movement Centers is an expert on neurodegenerative diseases and specializes in Parkinson Disease, ALS, MS and Stroke rehab. “My interest is also to give patients a better quality of life and through my research I have found without a doubt that CBD oils and medicinal marijuana helps. It lowers stress, anxiety and depression for both the patient and their primary caregivers i.e. spouses. It helps them sleep better too.”

Through Medijuana Clinics, people are able to meet with a doctor for an assessment, review of medical records and if qualifying, complete the application for the medical card. “We work with several doctors from Miami to Lake Worth to help people learn about and begin the process of acquiring the CBD oils, which is over the counter and Medicinal marijuana if preferred forms, creams, oils or edibles from recognized dispensaries”, explains Jason Bergeron, a managing partner.

As a facilitator of the Support Groups, Sherry Picker, MSW of Paradise Home Health Care found; “I was getting more and more questions about CBD oil and Marijuana for Parkinson disease so I enlisted Ed to come speak and the response was very open and welcoming to trying the oils. In fact, several people already were self-medicating”.

A big part of PHHC’s marketing strategy is to provide community education. They have over 20 professionals who speak on various topics about health and wellness throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties. “Ed and I realized quickly that the demand for unbiased information is there so we put together a power point presentation and started speaking at community centers and senior adult education programs about CBD oils. Then the Florida legislature finally put the process into play and we invited Medijuana Clinics to join us” explains Ms. Picker. The talks have been very well attended and received. “The majority of attendees are very open-minded and many wanted to know where to obtain the CBD oils, so we set up a referral source with a well-known local Vitamin and Supplement store in Boca Raton”.

Upcoming venues include: Delray Community Wellness Center, the ALS Foundation Support Group Network, the Parkinson Foundation and various other community centers and senior communities.
